Semuon is Pastor Ki-Dong Kim’s pseudonym. Thus, you may find Semuon as the author’s name for his
books and essays. The excerpt above and more information of how Semuon was created can be found in
his first collection of essays, The Mountain with Stories.
“…I have decided to rename myself as “Semuon”
from now on. Se (視, what I see), Mu (無, there is none), On (言, spoken words) will be my new name.
Many people rename themselves as Peter, Paul, or David from the Bible, but I
will rename myself as Semuon. I
also like the way the sound of this name carries an Eastern overtone instead of
a foreigner’s name. This will be the motto and philosophy of my life, "What though the world conspires to humiliate you, do not sorrow or complain." Even if
someone slanders and insults me, I will live as a Semuon. I will never stand on the
pulpit and backbite someone publicly or privately….”
